Mission of the
Institut de physiatrie

Our mission

The Institut de Physiatrie du Québec provides a team of physicians and related health professionals who treat musculoskeletal disorders, such as back pain and neck pain, as well as joint, tendon, ligament, nerve, and bursal problems.
Physiatrists are medical doctors who are specially trained to investigate and treat these conditions. They see patients at the request of general practitioners or other specialists. In addition to diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasounds, the Institut also offers a range of injection methods, from simple to highly complex, under fluoroscopic and ultrasound guidance, performed by physiatrists specifically trained in these areas.

The physiatrists at the Institut de Physiatrie du Québec (IPQ) are current or former professors in the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal. They actively participate in educating medical students, physiatry residents and practicing physicians.

Having a plastic surgeon, a neurosurgeon and an anesthesiologist on our team expands the diagnostic and therapeutic services we can offer our patients.

Many therapeutic methods are performed by experienced paramedical professionals—physiotherapists and physical rehabilitation therapists. Physiatrists regularly make use of these services, but they are also available to patients directly or upon recommendation from their physician.

The mission of the Institut is to provide services that are at the frontiers of knowledge and technology to our patients. Most patients live in the Montréal area, but the Institut is also a unique referral centre for physicians from many regions throughout Quebec.
